Ready to Become a Driver? How to Prepare for MC Training

If you've decided to become a truck driver, now's the time to prepare for training. Your training will require a lot of commitment from you. But, once you're done with training, you'll be able to take your multi-combination license test, which will allow you to get behind the wheel of a truck. Before you enrol in a training program, read the information provided below. These tips will help you prepare for training.

Schedule Your Physical

If you want to train for your multi-combination license, the first thing you need to do is schedule a physical. You need to be in good health before you can get behind the wheel of a truck. If you've never been tested for sleep apnoea, now's the time to have that done. You'll be on the road for long stretches, sometimes without any real breaks. The last thing you want is to have your sleep interrupted by sleep apnoea. Not only that, but if you have severe sleep apnoea, you might not be fit to hold an unconditional licence. Before you apply for multi-combination training, be sure to schedule your physical and sleep study.

Dedicate Time for Studying

If you plan to take a multi-combination training course, you'll need to dedicate some time to studying. In fact, you should plan to study at least once a day. This is in addition to the time you'll spend in the classroom and behind the wheel. The time you dedicate to studying will help to ensure a passing score in the class, as well as on your test. One way to improve your study time is to take copious notes while you're in class. That way, you can study that information once you get home.

Spend Some Time in the Cab

If you want to get your multi-combination licence, try to spend some time in the cab before classes begin. This is especially important if you have no on-the-road experience. If you know someone who is already a licenced driver, ask if you can accompany them on the road for a few days. If you don't know anyone, talk to an instructor at the driving school. They can introduce you to a former student who might be willing to let you join them on the road. Spending some time in the cab of a truck will allow you to decide if the multi-combination licence is right for you.
