Qualities That You Will Need to Make an Excellent MC Driver

Driving heavy commercial vehicles is a profession that needs a combination of talent, skill and responsibility. One of the heavy vehicles used to haul goods from one point to the other is the MC, or multi-combination. A multi-combination trailer can tow more than one type of trailer. The MC category driving license is only accorded to people who have a number of years' experience in driving. Specifically, you must have owned a heavy rigid or a heavy combination license for at least 12 months before being eligible for this license class. Additionally, there are other qualities that will help you be successful in truck driving. Here are the qualities that will help you make an excellent MC driver.

Proper Training

Being on the road with small vehicles is good experience in driving; however, it does not equip you with the skills needed to handle heavier vehicles. Heavy trucks, especially the MC category, are a little more challenging to manoeuvre on the roads and usually need some additional training. The authorities need you to undertake the theory and practical assessment before getting the statement of attainment. However, even after getting the statement of attainment, you need 12 months on the road with your HR or HC licence. To get this experience, you need to enrol in MC courses.

Attention to Detail

Another skill you will have to cultivate if you want to have an easy time driving heavy vehicles is attention to detail. Heavy vehicles are more vulnerable to accidents, especially in wet weather and in areas where the roads are narrow. Also, the width of the vehicles makes them require extra care when manoeuvring around corners and hairpin turns as their centre of gravity is compromised.

Mechanical Skills

Trucking is a career that will put you on the road for long hours. Additionally, you will have to travel to many far-flung corners of the country. At times, your vehicle could develop minor mechanical problems in places that are far from an auto shop. Knowing how to fix these minor issues will help you have an easier time on the road and minimise the amount of downtime that you spend on your trips.

These are a few qualities and qualifications that you will need to have a successful career in heavy vehicle driving. Remember that the most important thing is to engage a professional driving school for the additional training needed to get the MC license. With the right school, the course will be successful and helpful to you.
